Soliloquy
獨 白
The book design is inspired by the spirit of pop art. By using daily objects as inspiration or visual elements to compose a story, a thought or feeling.
‘Soliloquy’ tells four different popular culture stories behind the neglecting people in the 20th century. Four chapters of Hong Kong popular culture and social issues are illustrated — monster parents, Brick Slaves, Ethic Minorities, Materialistic Girls. As a group, we design the Art direction and concept of this publication. Each group member is responsible for designing one of the chapters individually.

About
my chapter
In this design project, I was responsible for designing one of the chapters of ‘Soliloquy’ — Monster parents. Monster parents have been a hot social issue in recent years, which generally describe some of the over-indulgent, over-protection and overbearing parenting style. They love their children, but they tend to a wrong self-centered parenting style under the ‘scores means success’ education culture.
This chapter aim at encouraging parents to self-examine their over-indulgent or protection parenting style through the soliloquy of monster parents and their children.
Blotted line
Style
The illustration style is inspired by Andy Warhol early art period illustration style — blotted line’ technique, which combines drawing with very basic printmaking concept. This technique enabled me to create a variety of unique and sketchy illustration along with a similar theme.
